Biography
Pale Blue Pony is the alter ego of the Oosterbeek (NL) based musician Frank Geuyen, named after a bully-teacher’s car in high school.
Being caught by music somewhere in my early teens, the aspiration to play myself soon was awakened. Begging for months for a guitar, eventually paid off and started a self-teaching process. The first bands are formed at age 16, starting from the 3 chord madness of punk elevating to a more sophisticated guitar-rock/gothic-wave direction while studying.
After severely injuring a few fingers of my left hand in a biking accident in 2007, I stopped playing guitar for almost 2 years. My musical aspirations at that point seemed over. However, with this little handicap I started playing and composing again in 2009. The new found inspiration, made me start some lo-fi home-recordings. Pale Blue Pony was finally born.
Musically my influences vary from postrock (Mogwai, Explosions in the sky) to shoegazer (Slowdive), the Cure and A winged victory for the sullen. Consistent is the melancholic dark and dreamy, poppy feel.
In 2013 I quitted my 15-year IT career, for the simple fact that it was wearing me down. All I ever wanted was to create my own musical atmosphere and at that point I decided to go and live my dream. The first result is the in 2020 released Pale Blue Pony debut album. Recorded at Dufry Studios in Amsterdam with producer Minco Eggersman (At The Close of Every Day, ME, Unifony).
During the preparation for the debut album recordings I slowly shifted more and more to playing piano. The new instrument leads to a whole new inspiration. The melancholic and softer, more vulnerable feel of the piano changes my music. Generally I’m currently more caught by neo-classical (minimal) piano music and trying to find a hybrid ambient/soundscape atmosphere that blends my love for the big reverb guitars with this new piano music. The instrumental Morpheus EP, released in September 2023 is a culmination that marks this shift in musical inspiration.
Sincerely hope my music finds you well!
